You are right. Actually, I did not think properly about the legal rights that marriage can assure. I was primarily worried about doing a feminist critic of the institution of marriage, and how it can change, so my story is quite insensitive to legal matters.

However, the legal side of marriage also played a huge part in my life. My wife and I just moved abroad because of her work (in Germany). As this country also recognizes same-sex marriage, I was able to move with her, get a visa, social security and all the advantages of “traditional” marriage.

You are absolutely right: another important issue to think about!
